| Description:
The Big
Darby flows through Union,
Madison, Franklin,
and Pickaway Counties. The Big Darby River as well as its major tributary
Little Darby River was added as a state scenic river in 1984 and
a national scenic river in 1994.
These two
rivers have 82 miles of water rolling through some of the
richest bottomland in these counties.
Both rivers
are rich in aquatic and terrestrial plants and animals, 86
species of fish, including the Scioto Madtom which is on the
Ohio
endangered list, and 41 species of freshwater mollusks, eight of
which are on the endangered list.
The banks of
both rivers are the home to many species of birds and mammals,
as well as many species of prairie flowers
